New Highway Code - LAW No. 5209/2025, GOVERNMENT GAZETTE No. 100
The Hellenic Association of Motorhomes and Touring Caravans (S.E.A.R.T.E.) welcomes the enactment of Law No. 5209/2025, published in Government Gazette No. 100, establishing the New Highway Code, passed by the Hellenic Parliament on 11 June 2025.
With regard to caravans (both touring and motorized), Article 38 introduces a clear and distinct framework concerning their parking within and outside urban areas, defining, with logic and clarity, where thousands of Greek and foreign travelers may lawfully park their vehicles.
In Article 4(69), a precise definition is now provided regarding the specifications of touring and motorized caravans (motorhomes), in terms of their construction, their intended use, and the permissible provision of accommodation when parked, in accordance with their built-in equipment.
WITHIN URBAN AREAS:
  Motorized Caravans: Parking is permitted for vehicles up to 7.5 meters in length with no time restriction. For those exceeding 7.5 meters, parking is permitted for up to 24 consecutive hours.
  Touring Caravans: Parking is permitted for up to 24 consecutive hours.
OUTSIDE URBAN AREAS:
In Article 38(6) it is explicitly stipulated that, in areas outside urban zones, the provisions of paragraph 5 shall apply to the parking of touring and motorized caravans.
It is thereby established that parking is permitted, irrespective of vehicle length or time limitation, either in areas designated for this purpose or on road shoulders, and where such shoulders do not exist, as close as reasonably possible to the right-hand edge of the carriageway and parallel to its axis, unless such parking is otherwise prohibited.
ACCOMMODATION DURING PARKING
Article 4(69) provides an express definition of the characteristics and the equipment with which touring and motorized caravans are manufactured and affirms their intended use for the purpose of providing accommodation while parked.
A significant advancement for the itinerant tourism community
This new legislation:
  Establishes the right to equal use of the road network and parking privileges for motorized and touring caravans in Greece, in parity with all other categories of vehicles.
The Hellenic Association of Motorhomes and Touring Caravans (S.E.A.R.T.E.) will continue to collaborate with all competent authorities and the State, with the aim of improving conditions and promoting the development of the lifestyle and tourism model facilitated by the use of caravans.
Caravans are purpose-built for continuous mobility in harmony with nature, promoting a way of life that fully respects the environment.
The protection of our natural heritage is not merely a legal obligation but a moral duty incumbent upon us all.
Our Association, S.E.A.R.T.E. (Hellenic Association of Motorhomes and Touring Caravans), remain at the forefront in safeguarding these values.
