Protect the right to trial by jury in the UK

Since government plans were leaked revealing that many more criminal cases could soon be heard by a judge alone, several petitions have been launched on Change.org calling for the protection of jury trials.

These campaigns argue that Justice Secretary David Lammy's plans to limit jury trials to only the most serious cases represents a serious threat to democratic rights, constitutional protections, and public trust in the justice system. 

Petition starters across the UK are urging the government to change course, warning that removing juries from certain cases would undermine centuries of legal tradition.
