Implement Enhanced Safety Measures and Warning Signs on Rural Roads

The Issue

https://www.change.org/keepheartsbeatingnotbreaking

I am a grieving parent and grandparent, having lost my 18-year-old daughter Jessica and unborn grandson Marcus in a tragic road accident.
They were passengers in a vehicle driven by Jessica's partner Joshua, Marcus' father, who also tragically lost his life.

A momentary distraction led to him missing a poorly angled road sign and extremely worn road markings at a junction. The lack of clear warnings resulted in him failing to realise he needed to give way and collided with an oncoming DAF skip lorry.
The driver of the lorry has to now live with this horrific memory and we as a family have to life without my beautiful daughter and grandson, who was also a much loved sister, auntie, cousin and friend.

This heartbreaking event has highlighted the urgent need for additional safety measures and warning signs on rural roads/junctions. It is crucial that we prevent such devastating accidents from happening again by ensuring all drivers are adequately warned of potential dangers ahead.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.35 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes globally (WHO Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018). In many cases, these accidents could be prevented with better signage and clearer markings.

We urge local authorities to take immediate action by implementing enhanced safety measures such as improved signage visibility, regular maintenance of worn-out road markings, installation of additional warning signs at critical junctions especially in rural areas where they are often lacking or inadequate.

I have researched the background of accidents at the junction of Plurenden Road and Bethersden Road, Woodchurch, Kent via crashmap.co.uk and the data information from January 1999-September 2022 is shocking, 12 reported accidents this junction alone, 1 being a previous fatality, I'm awaiting data from 2022-date as the numbers will rise by at least 2 more fatalities.

Raising awareness will definitely help to save lives.

By signing this petition you can help us push for these necessary changes that could save countless lives - like those of Jessica, Joshua and baby Marcus - from being cut short due to avoidable accidents on our roads. Please sign this petition today; let's make our roads safer for everyone.
