Bring Back Hooters Air — America Needs Its Wings Back
The Issue
On May 2, 2026, Spirit Airlines abruptly ended its nationwide service in the early hours of the morning. This left routes across the country vacant and blew massive holes in the schedules of major airports, pulling more than 21 million seats out of the skies overnight. While very few will miss Spirit, with its over-policing of bag sizes and its nickel-and-diming of every amenity, there is a much more beloved former airline that can seize this opportunity.
On March 6, 2003, a new concept took to the air, an idea that in retrospect was a no-brainer. Hooters Air combined the act of air travel with the atmosphere of a breastaurant. For three glorious years, Hooters Air served wings, beer, and pretty women to thousands of travelers in the skies. The seats weren't the only things that were larger on these planes! Beer flowed like water, the wings never ran out, and their prices were some of the most compeditive in the industry. When the airline launched, founder Robert Brooks said the mission was simple: "We aim to bring the fun back to flying." Unfortunately, due to rising oil prices and low demand, Hooters Air permanantly grounded the fleet in early 2006.
Spirit didn't just leave a hole in the schedule, it left the gate door wide open. When they shut down, they stranded more than 90 planes scattered across the country, dozens now baking in the Arizona desert with nowhere to go. A fleet of perfectly good jets, empty gates at major airports, and a map full of high-demand routes with nobody flying them. The infrastructure is just sitting there. If there was ever a moment for the king to reclaim its throne, it's right now, while the runway is clear.
For over 20 years now, we have been stuck with bland airplane food, small seats, and crying children. I say it is prime time to give Hooters back their wings and let them fly once again. Demand has never been higher for air travel that caters to adults only who like beer, wings, and pretty women. That's why I've published this petition to bring back Hooters Air, so we can once again "bring the fun back to flying"!
