The issue

The proposed AGL Coopers Gap Wind Farm sits just 3 kilometres away from Bunya Mountains National Park which is currently being considered for World Heritage listing under the "Gondwana Rainforests of Australia" listing. In addition to the constant noise of the turbines that frightens away bats - which are essential pollinators in Bunya Mountains National Park and play a major role in the huge diversity of flora and fauna that exists in the national park - numerous scientific studies confirm that wind turbines kill tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of birds annually. Birds such as wedged-tail eagles, goshawks, finches, catbirds, satin bower birds, ibises, crimson rosellas, Australian King Parrots, noisy pittas and wonga pigeons will all be killed by the Coopers Gap wind farm turbines. Losing just 1% of Bunya Mountains bird population every year will mean that the national park's biodiversity will quickly decline and the Endangered Ecological Communities that form Bunya Mountains National Park will be threatened with extinction.
