Our weather dictates that the elephants spend 7 or 8 months out of the year in their barn. This is so far from their natural habitat that it causes them stress, which is exhibited in pacing and head bobbing. Elephants are extremely social and the benefit of being in the presence of other elephants would only enhance their life. At least two of the elephants at the Woodland Park Zoo are past reproductive age, they have earned their retirement. They deserve to live out the rest of their days in the company of other elephants and without being on display. It is time for them to regain their dignity.
