Plans passed by Committee
I'm sad to report that on Tuesday night, the plan to change 5 One O'Clock Clubs into nurseries and the Battersea Park club into a cafe was passed by the Council's Children & Education committee.
Amendments were proposed which would have at least obliged the people taking over the buildings to continue to provide free Stay & Play (at the moment the document just says they will have 'the opportunity' to offer it for a charge) but these were rejected.
The only slight positive was that the Council has put the closure date back to the end of August, supposedly to give them more time to consult on the changes (although a requirement to consult with parents on future Stay and Play provision was rejected too).
The measure still has to pass a full Council vote but, given how heavily partisan the Council is, this is pretty much a formality.
It is still important to stay vocal in our opposition to the plans as this will make it much more likely that we at least keep some Stay and Play.
