Free public transportation for disabled people in Singapore

Free public transportation for disabled people in Singapore
The Issue
The disabled community in Singapore, at only 4% of the population, forms a very small community living with either physical impairment, vision impairment, hearing impairment or intellectual impairment.
Disabled people are the most marginalised members of society as they face social exclusion. They are glaringly facing exclusion from the labour force as employers are unwilling to hire them viewing them as liabilities when it comes to safety, as well as workers who might jeopardize productivity. As such, many disabled people have limited career paths and progression, and many are earning meagre wages. Only few have had success stories with their careers.
Currently, disabled people receive concessions to assist them with their transportation needs. Only those with certification of disability from their doctors, be it impairment in vision, hearing or intellect, are eligible for the concessions. The concession schemes are tiered based on the monthly household income per capita of the families with disabled members.
The current public transport concession scheme in Singapore only gives a discount of 25% off adult fares for disabled people. This is not enough to assist the disabled people especially with rising costs of living in Singapore.
We are petitioning for the Singapore government to provide free public transportation for the disabled people in Singapore. Especially with the disabled community being small, social welfare spending on the disabled will not cause a dent on our GDP.
