Ministry of Industrialisation and Enterprise Developments
The Issue
• Unnecessary loss of human life is a national security threat.
• It is also a waste of human resources that we have invested in, as a nation through education, entrepreneurs, present and future problem-solvers and a loss for society as it takes away from the basic of our social structure: the family.
• We lose productivity.
• We lose human capital.
• We lose lives.
• These accidents in these mobile guillotines are not only expensive to our country but have adverse effects on those involved too, long lasting effects on families especially given that they don't get counselling.
• Once we have better PSV's the insurance companies don't have to pay out as much as they have. They save.
THE REAL COURSE OF THE ROAD CARNAGE IN KENYA By Joe Mwai
As we focus on the extent of the damage in the mangled bodies of these buses, verses the estimated speeds it could have been travelling, let us look at images of two high speed trains in China that were involved in a head on collusion about two years ago. The trains are otherwise known as „Bullet‟ due to their speed. This image below is of such high speed trains that colluded and then fell from a bridge. Just look at its body after the accident.
Amazingly, only 33 people lost their lives while a staggering 199 sustained injuries in this horrible accident, although the deaths of the passengers caused an outcry and concern over the high speed trains. But most Kenyans would be amazed by the fact that at such high speeds and the fall from the bridge of the same trains, there were survivors at all based on what we are constantly witnessing on our roads with our locally assembled vehicles today.

Standard Digital News - Kenya : Kenyans in UK call for action on killer roads
The Kenya Bureau of Standard (KEBS) announced that they are coming with new legislation that will require all PSVs to install role cages! This is great news to all those who saw the dangers posed by the poor standards on the locally manufactured bodies of these vehicles.
