Please provide money to enlarge the car park at South Holderness Technology College and turn it into a one way system to make it safer

The Issue

We the undersigned would like you to consider increasing the size and security of the road entrance and grounds at South Holderness Technology College, Preston.  At the moment the road outside the college is an accident waiting to happen.  Morning arrivals and afternoon leaving times are horrendous with only one narrow entrance to access and leave the car park.  With traffic approaching from Preston and cars turning towards Preston as they leave the school, the tailback of cars waiting to enter the school can sometimes extend all the way back to Hedon. Cars waiting to leave the school from the car park can cause a total gridlock at these times, with no vehicle movement for quite a while.   There is also the additional hold-up of a public bus stop which narrows the road to one lane for a whole five minutes during the evening peak time while the bus waits for the children after school. It is almost opposite the only entrance/exit.  We are not suggesting this should be removed, just a little re-thinking of the entrance layout and more spaces made available for staff and parents dropping off and collecting children. The introduction of a 'one-way only' system within the car park would instantly solve the current problem of two-way traffic using one entrance.  A second gateway facing towards Hedon already exists and is currently never used.  This could surely be developed into an exit route and the original entrance/exit become the new entrance.   To increase car parking space, our suggestion would be to move the tennis courts to a more appropriate place within the school grounds and extend the car park into this area. The only cost involved would be widening the entrance to enable two cars to pass, plus the painting of white lines for parking spaces.  As the ground is already tarmacked, the surrounding fence could be left for added security.  White lines to indicate the one-way system would also be needed.   At the moment, it is necessary for caretakers to lower a barrier at the end of the school day to prevent cars accessing an area where students walk.  You will see from our attached plan that the yellow pedestrian areas for students would be virtually traffic-free, with only disabled, delivery and emergency vehicles allowed (usually arriving at lesson times only).  General traffic in these areas would be unnecessary due to the extra parking spaces created (an estimated 85 additional spaces).
