Increase funding for the Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention Program offered to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The Issue
Currently the NS EIBI program offers treatment to young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder who are not yet in school. Funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness and offered through the District Health Authorities, the program has helped hundreds of families across the province.
Sadly, due to the dramatic increase in children diagnosed with ASD (1 in 68 kids, a 30 per cent increase according to the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention) more and more kids are being put on the wait list for EIBI, some waiting up to a year and having to miss their first year of elementary school in order to access this program.
There are many unknowns when it comes to autism, what is consistently agreed upon is that early intervention is key. This is a critical time for our kids, treatment is crucial to their success. Please join us in asking the Nova Scotia Government to have their funding for EIBI on par with the increase in kids being diagnosed with ASD.
