He is the co-founder and executive director of Scouts for Equality, an organization that played a crucial role in challenging the Boy Scouts of America's policies on LGBTQ+ inclusion. Wahls graduated from Iowa City West High School and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa. He furthered his education with a Master's in Public Policy from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School.
