It consists of 33 members, each serving four-year terms, with districts drawn such that they are roughly equal in population. Each senator represents approximately 192,000 Tennesseans. The Senate's legislative duties include passing state laws, approving the state budget, confirming appointments to state departments and agencies, and acting as a check on the powers of the governor and the state's executive branch. The State Senate convenes at the State Capitol in Nashville.
