Stephen Joseph Scalise, born in 1965, is a prominent American politician affiliated with the Republican Party. He has been serving as the House Majority Leader since 2023 and has represented Louisiana's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2008. Scalise's political career includes roles as the House Majority Whip from 2014 to 2019 and the House Minority Whip from 2019 to 2023. Before his national presence, he was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1995 to 2007 and briefly served in the Louisiana State Senate in 2008. Scalise holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Louisiana State University and began his career as a software engineer and marketing executive.
