Rufus Seth Williams is an American lawyer and former district attorney known for being the first African-American district attorney in both Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A member of the Democratic Party, Williams began his term as district attorney on January 4, 2010, after serving as an assistant district attorney. His tenure was notable for his groundbreaking position as well as his legal challenges; on March 21, 2017, he was indicted on 23 counts of bribery, extortion, and fraud. His trial commenced on June 19, 2017, leading to his resignation and a guilty plea to one charge on June 29, 2017.
