The Puerto Rico State Senate is the upper house of the Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico, the territory's legislative branch. Composed of 27 members, senators are elected every four years alongside the election of the island's governor. Each senator represents districts throughout Puerto Rico, with 16 members elected by these districts, 11 are elected at-large. The President of the Senate is the second-highest-ranking official of Puerto Rico and plays a key role in managing legislative affairs. The Senate has the authority to initiate, review, and approve proposed laws, as well as oversee the operations of other branches of government.
