Charles Michael "Mike" Thompson is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 4th congressional district since 1999. The district covers the outer northern area of the San Francisco Bay Area, including Lake and Napa counties and parts of Contra Costa, Solano, Yolo, and Sonoma counties. A member of the Democratic Party, Thompson is known for his leadership as the chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. Prior to his congressional career, he served in the California State Senate from 1990 to 1998. Thompson's background also includes work as an attorney and captain in various maritime roles. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans.
