Michael McCormack is an Australian politician who served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia from 2018 until 2021, within his role as the federal Leader of the National Party during that same period. Born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, McCormack worked as a newspaper editor before entering politics. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2010, representing the Riverina region. As a parliamentarian, he has held several ministerial roles, including Minister of Veterans' Affairs, Defence Personnel, and most notably Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development. His leadership style is marked by steadfast advocacy for rural and regional Australians.
