Othell Maxie Burns Jr., commonly known as Max Burns, is an American politician and academic hailing from Georgia. A member of the Republican Party, Burns has been serving as the State Senator for Georgia's 23rd district since January 2021. He previously represented Georgia's 12th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2003 to 2005. Burns has a rich academic background, holding a Bachelor's in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master's in Business Information Systems, and a Doctorate in Management Information Systems from Georgia State University. His career includes roles as President of Gordon State College, Dean of the Mike Cottrell College of Business at the University of North Georgia, and a professor at Georgia Southern University. Additionally, he has served as a Senior Policy Advisor and held visiting professorships in information management in Australia and New Zealand.
