Maryland State Senate

The Maryland State Senate is the upper chamber of the Maryland General Assembly, the legislative body of the state. It comprises 47 senators who serve four-year terms concurrently with the governor, representing districts across the state determined by population. As a legislative body, it's tasked with responsibilities that broadly encompass proposing, debating, and voting on state laws and regulations. The Senate also holds significant responsibilities such as confirming governor-appointed state officials and judges. In the event of a tie, decisions are decided by the Lieutenant Governor who serves as the President of the Senate.
