Keith Maurice Ellison, born in 1963, is a prominent American politician and lawyer currently serving as the 30th Attorney General of Minnesota. A member of the Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), Ellison has had a distinguished career in public service. He was the U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district from 2007 to 2019, where he established himself as a progressive leader. Prior to his congressional tenure, he was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Ellison also served as Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2017 to 2018. Academically, he holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Wayne State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota. Ellison has also worked as an Executive Director at the Legal Rights Center and as an attorney.
