Joseph D. Morelle, born in 1957, is an American politician currently serving as the U.S. Representative for New York's 25th congressional district, a position he has held since 2018. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, Morelle has a long history of public service. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a prominent figure in the New York State Assembly, representing the 136th Assembly district from 1991 to 2018. During his time in the Assembly, he served as the Majority Leader from 2013 and acted as Speaker in the absence of Speaker Sheldon Silver. Morelle's congressional career began following the passing of longtime Representative Louise Slaughter. Known for his commitment to his constituents, Morelle continues to serve the Rochester area and its suburbs with dedication.
