John Cornyn III is an American politician, attorney, and former jurist who has been serving as the senior United States senator from Texas since 2002. Born in 1952, Cornyn is a prominent member of the Republican Party. He began his career as a District Judge in Bexar County from 1984 to 1990. He then served on the Texas Supreme Court from 1991 to 1997. Following this, he was the Attorney General of Texas from 1999 to 2002. Cornyn holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Trinity University, a Juris Doctor from St. Mary's University, and a Master of Laws from the University of Virginia.
