Janice Schakowsky is a seasoned politician and public servant with a strong background in education and legislative experience. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois, which laid the foundation for her commitment to public service. Schakowsky has been serving as the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 9th Congressional District, a position she has held since 1999. Her career in politics began as a State Representative in the Illinois House of Representatives, where she dedicated herself to advocating for consumer rights and social justice. Prior to her tenure in Congress, Schakowsky was the Program Director at Illinois Public Action, a leading consumer advocacy organization. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
