Government of Uganda

The Government of Uganda operates under a presidential system where the President of Uganda is both head of state and head of government. The country is divided into districts overseen by elected Local Government Councils. The Constitution of Uganda is considered the supreme law, but the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals outlined within it are sometimes violated. The country's political landscape is dominated by the National Resistance Movement, led by President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986. Despite being a multi-party democracy, political power largely rests within the ruling party.
