The Algerian government operates as a unitary semi-presidential republic, with its executive, legislative, and judicial branches functioning under the framework of a constitution. The President of Algeria, who is the head of state, serves as the commander-in-chief of the military and oversees foreign affairs of the nation. While the Prime Minister, who is appointed by the president, acts as the head of government leading the executive branch. The government also comprises of a bicameral parliament - the Council of the Nation and the People's National Assembly. Despite its democratic structure, the Algerian government has been criticized for its authoritative control, lack of transparency, and allegations of corruption.
