Gobierno España, or the Government of Spain, operates as a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, which combines a hereditary monarch and a system of multi-party democracy. The government is divided into three branches: the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branch. The executive branch is led by the Prime Minister, who is the Head of Government. The legislative power is vested in the Cortes Generales, composed of two chambers: the Congress of Deputies and the Senate. The judicial branch is independent of the executive and the legislature, maintaining the rule of law across Spain. The government abides by a constitution that dates back to 1978 following the end of Francisco Franco's dictatorship.
