Gobierno de Chile, or the Government of Chile, is a democratic republic which blends executive, legislative, and judicial powers to govern the South American nation. The executive power is held by the president, who serves as both the head of state and the head of government. The bicameral National Congress, composed of a Senate and Chamber of Deputies, holds the legislative authority. The judicial branch is independent and includes the Supreme Court at its helm. In addition to these central governmental structures, Chile is divided administratively into 16 regions, each governed by an intendant appointed by the president.
