Department of Energy

The Department of Energy (DOE) is a federal agency in the United States tasked with formulating and implementing policies related to energy and safety in handling nuclear material. This includes the management of the country's nuclear infrastructure and nuclear research, the promotion of energy conservation and renewable energy efforts, the cleanup of nuclear testing sites, and much more. The DOE provides funding for research in fields like physics, biology, and environmental science, as well as ensuring the nation’s energy security. Although established by an act of Congress in 1977, the agency essentially extends the Federal Energy Administration of the 1970s.
