David Eugene Lucas Sr. is a seasoned American politician and a prominent member of the Democratic Party. Serving as a Georgia State Senator for the 26th District since 2012, Lucas has a long-standing political career. Before his tenure in the Senate, he represented District 139 in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1974 to 2011. Lucas is a founding member of 100 Black Men of America, reflecting his commitment to community service and mentorship. Academically, he holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Tuskegee Institute, as well as a MD and a JD from Mercer University. In addition to his legislative roles, Lucas has experience in the insurance industry as a self-employed insurance salesperson. He is the father of the late Al Lucas, a gridiron football player.
