David Loebsack is an American academic and politician from the Democratic Party who served as the U.S. Representative for Iowa's 2nd congressional district from 2007 to 2021. Born on December 23, 1952, in Sioux City, Iowa, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Davis. Before transitioning to politics, Loebsack was a professor at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. As a Representative, he focused on issues such as veterans’ rights, education, healthcare, and rural development.
