The Défenseur des Droits, or the Defender of Rights, is an independent administrative authority in France dedicated to defending the rights and freedoms of individuals against any infringements by public bodies or institutions. Established in 2011, this authority combines four roles, including the defender of children's rights, the anti-discrimination ombudsman, the ombudsman for public services, and the controller of security ethics. It provides individuals with free, confidential support to help mediate disputes, challenge administrative decisions, and investigate potential instances of discrimination or maladministration.
