The Câmara dos Deputados Federais is the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil, the country's legislative body. Its principal functions include drafting and deliberating on laws, overseeing the federal government, and examining the country’s budget and finances. It consists of representatives from all 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District. The number of representatives is proportional to the population of each state, but no state can have more than 70 or less than 8 representatives. Its members, called Deputies, serve four-year terms and are eligible for reelection.
