CNJ

CNJ, also known as Central Railroad of New Jersey, is a historic American Class I railroad, which ceased operation in 1972. First chartered in 1831 as the Elizabethtown and Somerville Railroad, CNJ played a crucial role in the transportation infrastructure of the United States. Headquartered in Pennsylvania, it had a network throughout three states, namely Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. CNJ was known for its strategic relevance during the economic expansion of the 19th and early 20th centuries, providing services for both passengers and freight. In 1976, most of its properties were assumed by the newly created Consolidated Rail Corporation.
