Stop Food Companies from hiding ingredients from the public

Food companies over the years have been very misleading about what they actually put in their products or where they got their products. Whenever there is a time when a company reaches a parasite problem in their foods of some sort, companies tend to try to fix them as quickly as they can but also hiding it from the public so that people won't stop buying their product for a parasite or disease. Or a company that wants to sell more buy copying their product over and over again in a faster way by adding unusual ingredients people would put in their food or drink. Take Coca-cola for instance, where back in 1990 there was an event where there would be Coca-cola cans with secret bills of cash hidden inside them. To make the weight of each coke with cash inside indistinguishable to a regular coke they added more water, chlorine, and ammonium sulfate which is bad for humans to drink. This is only one example for this company, if not an example out of millions of scams by hundreds of food companies that is happening in the world each day. Everyday the food I'm eating may be made up of ingredients I don't even know since many food companies never bothered to share any ingredient information. Chipotle Needs to Ditch the Plastic!

Being a college student, Chipotle has become one of my favorite places to grab a quick bite where I know I can trust the food I'm eating. But, I think it's time to make a statement on an issue I stand by... Chipotle Mexican Grill is a front-runner and trend setter when it come to high-quality food and restaurant standards. They preach about "Food With Integrity" which entails a commitment to wholesome ingredients, non-GMO foods, responsible farming, and locally sourced products. But, why have they chosen to ignore the largest destruction in their whole restaurant? Their plastic straws, lids, and eating utensils.  According to The Last Plastic Straw, on average, there are 500 million straws discarded into landfills per DAY in the United States alone! Even if Chipotle were to put recycling into place to help with their straw and lid dilemma, according to Residential Waste Systems, straws are made from a certain kind of plastic called polypropylene. While this is a common type of plastic, "...some of the biggest recycling centers that DO accept polypropylene, DO NOT accept plastic straws" due to it's make-up. Recycling plastic straws is nearly impossible. So, with the dangers of single-use plastic becoming more and more widespread everyday why has it taken a company like Chipotle so long to catch on? Well, according to Food Business News, Chipotle has been taking strides to reduce their production waste by switching to reusable food storage lids, for example; BUT only plans to commit to offer consumer composting and recycling efforts by 2020. While having these efforts put into place within the next 2 years sounds like a good solution, the reality of the situation is that 2 years, is too long. In 2 years the US can use and discard 350 billion plastic straws in landfills/the environment. With Chipotle being the trend-setter of the food industry that it is, together let's convince them to take a stand against single-use plastic items and inspire other fast-food restaurants to follow! :)

Ataxia Awareness for Research

Ataxia is a rare neuro-muscular degenerative condition that does not stop at a stage but continues to increase. Ataxia mainly affects limbs, movements and slowly it captures the whole body and becomes totally dependent. The other problems associated with the progress of ataxia are slurred speech, involuntary eye movements, vision problem, swallowing problems, cardiomyopathy, diabetes; etc Ataxia patients are mentally sound but will become physically dependent. The sufferer clearly knows and experiences the darkening future but cannot do anything because there is no cure of ataxia. This is extremely miserable situation which leads most to sufferer in deep frustration, anxiety and depression.  So it is very necessary to take steps to bring them out of this frustration and depression. Ataxia is not a common disease and the society is not well aware about ataxia. Therefore, ataxia patients are often misguided. Ataxia patients have formed self help groups and gathered many patients through Internet. These self help groups tried to spread awareness through different camps and put patient views in international conferences. But these efforts are not enough. We need support from society. There are different types of ataxia. Out of which Freidreich’s Ataxia (FA), Cerebellar Ataxia (CA), Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA) are some most common . The type of ataxia can be known through DNA test or it can be acquired (after birth). The condition of ataxia can be diagnosed by clumsiness, loss of coordination in arms or legs, unsteady or swaying gait, slurred speech, jerky limb movements.  All these are clinical symptoms by which a doctor can say that person has ataxia. But these symptoms are not enough to know the type of ataxia. We are trying so hard so others will have better options that are diagnosed later.  So that you (it does wait to show signs sometimes), our children or grandchildren do not have to suffer as much or perhaps not at all!  All we are asking for here is your signature to allow the research to be funded by the right source(s).   Unfortunately, we are finding out that somehow via (accidents [head injury],  stroke, brain tumors and other head trauma affecting Cerebellum) also sometimes Ataxia appears.  Although obviously non-genetic the exact same symptoms occur and some are even progressive. TO ALL FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS - STOP USING PLASTIC STRAWS!

The ocean cannot speak for itself, so we must speak for it. Our oceans have been increasingly devastated from the inhumane and disgusting overuse of plastic straws. Americans alone use over 500 MILLION plastic straws every day, a number that is only supposed to grow with our inexcusable overuse habits. Eventually, it is predicted that there will be MORE microplastics, such as harmful plastic straws, in our oceans than fish. This is incredibly disturbing to both our ocean’s health and our humanity, as ocean ecosystems are crucial food sources and popular recreational areas. Fast Food companies ALONE produce around 200 pounds of waste for every $1000 dollars in sales. This waste includes a majority of plastic straws, about 30 percent of the total waste, which are non-biodegradable.Once in the ocean, plastic is mistaken for food and marine organisms ingest it causing about 71% of seabirds and 30% of sea turtles to have plastic in their stomachs after death. Eating the plastic can cause suffocation, starvation, drowning, and entanglement. If these fast food restaurants reduce their use of plastic straws by half, the amount of waste can be reduced from 60 pounds of plastic straw waste to 30 pounds, reducing the total cost to the restaurant from $1000 dollars to $850 dollars.
