Charles Michel

Charles Michel is a Belgian politician who currently serves as the President of the European Council, a role he assumed in December 2019. A member of the French-speaking liberal Reformist Movement, Michel had a distinguished political career in Belgium before taking on his European role, serving as the Prime Minister of Belgium from 2014 to 2019. With law degrees from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the University of Amsterdam, Michel comes from a political family; his father, Louis Michel, also had an extensive career in politics. Fluent in Dutch, French, and English, Michel brings a deep understanding of European politics and legislative processes to his leadership roles.
