Boston City Council

The Boston City Council is the legislative branch of the government of Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Consisting of thirteen members, nine district representatives and four at large, the council is responsible for the creation, modification, and enactment of laws and regulations within the city. Members of this civic body are elected to two-year terms and oversee a broad array of city functions, including the annual budget, land use, public safety, and health and human services. The council also maintains the power to investigate city agencies and performance, serving as a critical accountability mechanism within the municipal government structure.
