Star Trek: Release of Trent Pehrson's Romulan Language and Cultural Artifacts
The Issue
Petition for the Release of Trent Pehrson's Romulan Language and Cultural Artifacts of Star Trek: Picard
We petition in support of the release of Trent Pehrson's exceptional work toward creating a comprehensive Romulan language and cultural artifacts for Star Trek Picard. We request that his work be made available to purchase, learn from, and indulge in as fans of Star Trek and/or Linguistics.
We have the incomplete conlang that fans worked on for decades after Diane Duane's Star Trek books called doaege-rihan to use in the meantime, but we'd really REALLLLLY like to throw my money at the release of Trent Pehrson's official work somehow and learn the ST: Picard dialect of Romulan. Having an official language to learn and perpetuate would bring us all closer to the Star Trek universe as fans. With a history of dedication to the language following Diane Duane's novels, there is a prescedent of interest and dedication that will continue with the release of Trent Pehrson's in depth creation of this official language.
Personally, Romulans have always been my favorite alien race in ST ever since their appearance in TOS. There are other fans like me who deeply love the Romulans, too, and I am sure folks across the globe would love to learn it the same way folks flocked together to learn to speak Klingon. There's no way that CBS/Paramount would fail some kind of dictionary or language kit release. With this petition we share some insight into the solidarity Star Trek fans hold together with one another and to the Franchise. We hope that you will consider releasing Trent's work so that we can enjoy the dedication and craftsmanship he has put into the Star Trek universe to bolster the franchise's IP.
We implore you to make these language, culture, and merch resources available to us all.

Petition for the Release of Trent Pehrson's Romulan Language and Cultural Artifacts of Star Trek: Picard
Dear CBS/Paramount,
We thank You, the showrunners, and all crew and actors for your instrumental contributions to society and our lives through the perpetuation of Star Trek media and consumables.
We, the undersigned fans of Star Trek, are writing to express our strong support for the release of Trent Pehrson’s comprehensive work on the Romulan language and cultural artifacts created for Star Trek: Picard. His dedication and craftsmanship have added a rich layer of depth to the Star Trek universe, and we are eager to engage with and learn from this official content.
Why Are We Petitioning?
Fan Interest and Dedication:
For decades, fans have been working on an incomplete conlang called doaege-rihan, inspired by Diane Duane’s Star Trek novels. There is a consistent and long-standing interest and dedication to the Romulan language and culture.
The release of Trent Pehrson’s official work would provide a definitive and authoritative resource for fans to learn and engage with, much like the Klingon language has done within and for the Franchise.
Cultural and Linguistic Enrichment:
Romulans have been a beloved and integral part of the Star Trek universe since their first appearance in The Original Series (TOS). An official language and cultural resource would allow fans to delve deeper into the Star Trek universe, fostering a stronger connection and community among fans.
Many iterations of Star Trek since Roddenberry's Original Series have included some mention or showcase of Romulans as antagonists, antiheros, and even main characters. With the release of Star Trek Picard there has been an unequivocal invigoration into the value of Romulan characters, their lore, and their culture. Releasing Trent Pehrson's work on the language and culture of the Romulans opens the door for new horizons for the Franchise entirely.
Commercial Potential:
There is a precedent among how far fans will go when there are resources made available for the aspect of the ST Universe they love. The success of Klingon language resources, such as dictionaries and language kits; as well as the expansion of house wares, model weaponry, ships; further the meet up groups, and lifestyle devotion from fans all demonstrate the commercial viability of such products.
There is a significant and dedicated fan base that would eagerly purchase and engage with Romulan language and cultural resources, ensuring a positive return on investment.
What We Are Requesting
- Release of Language Resources:
A comprehensive dictionary and grammar guide for the Romulan language.
Audio and visual learning materials, such as pronunciation guides and cultural context videos. - Cultural Artifacts:
Books, art, and other media that delve into Romulan history, customs, and traditions. - Merchandise:
Language learning kits, books, and other merchandise that allow fans to immerse themselves in the Romulan culture.
We implore CBS/Paramount to consider the release of Trent Pehrson’s work on the Romulan language and cultural artifacts. This would not only enrich the Star Trek franchise and its fan community but also provide a valuable and engaging product that fans would enthusiastically support. Without your support and release of these works, there will always be a major gap within the market where these works can make an impact on the fans.
Thank you for your consideration.
