Ofgem have caused the cost of living crisis - We Call for Regulatory Changes in Ofgem
The Issue
For over two years, I have dedicated myself to advocating for consumers, attempting to guide Ofgem towards beneficial decisions with the support of over 350,000 people that signed my last petition. Despite our efforts, I've witnessed Ofgem's actions consistently worsen conditions for consumers. The limitations and obscurity of their powers, their frequent mistakes, and their disregard for the pleas of Charities and Consumer Groups are deeply concerning.
Ofgem is responsible for protecting consumers in the energy market; however, its current operational structure seems to be failing in this duty. A report from Citizens Advice suggests that poor service from energy suppliers has cost customers over £4.1 billion since 2018 (source: Citizens Advice). This indicates a significant failure on part of regulatory oversight.
It is crucial that we demand changes to how Ofgem operates. We need a system where consumer protection is prioritized above all else - a system where mistakes are acknowledged and rectified promptly; where the voices of Charities and Consumer Groups are heard and considered seriously.
In my new role as The Regulator Guy, I am producing a report on the failings of Ofgem since the beginning of the energy crisis, and how the lack of regulatory oversight of how businesses are charged for their energy bills has exponentially increased costs for businesses which have been passed on to consumers in the form of excessive inflation of prices. The report will produce recommendations for regulatory reforms of Ofgem to ensure they are putting consumer's first whilst still working toward net zero targets.
By signing this petition, you're urging the next UK government to implement necessary regulatory changes within Ofgem's operations - changes that will ensure better protection for consumers like us in the energy market. Please sign this petition today!
