The Issue

Why this petition matters

My name is Juan Carlos Centeno Vazquez, and I am advocating for a realistic, bipartisan breakthrough for the millions of undocumented immigrants who have lived and worked in the United States for decades.

This fight is deeply personal to me. My parents, Ramona Vazquez and Miguel Centeno, were the definition of "essential." For 25 years, they worked in factories across Los Angeles and Orange County, sewing the "Made in USA" labels that represent this country's pride. They paid their taxes, contributed to their community, and raised us to believe in the American Dream.

Tragically, my mother passed away on February 9, 2015, and my father followed her on March 9, 2019. They spent their final years just as they spent their working years: "invisible" to the laws of the country they served. They died in the shadows, never receiving the legal recognition or the dignity they earned through decades of hard labor.

We cannot let this be the story for millions of other families. Today, a vast generation of these long-term residents and Dreamers find themselves in their 40s and 50s, watching the years slip away while facing an increasingly vulnerable and uncertain future.

The Problem: Partisan Gridlock is a Dead End

The political gridlock in Washington has turned a deeply human crisis into a permanent campaign talking point. We are watching a repeating cycle where standalone legislation like the Dream Act or sprawling packages like the Dignity Act (H.R. 4393) are introduced, only to be weaponized for partisan leverage rather than passed into law.

With a newly structured Congress taking shape this January, the window for action is shrinking, and the urgency has never been higher. The reality of the current administration is clear: clean, strictly partisan legislation is mathematically guaranteed to fail. Any bill that leans entirely to one side faces an immediate presidential veto that Congress simply does not have the two-thirds supermajority votes to override.
Holding out for a single, unyielding bill means forcing families to live in perpetual fear of sudden detention and total exile from the only home they have ever known.

Our Proposal: A Bipartisan Grand Compromise

The only realistic path forward requires dropping the political theater. We are petitioning congressional leadership to sit down across the aisle and forge a meaningful, bipartisan compromise.

We demand a package that bridges the gap between both parties to finally deliver:

  • Immediate Protection for Dreamers: A clear, permanent path to legal status for individuals who arrived as minors and have built their futures here.
  • Earned Legal Status for Long-Term Residents: A secure, realistic framework for undocumented individuals with deep roots, clean records, and a history of tax compliance to earn their legal residency.
  • Balanced Structural Enforcement: Pairing these critical protections with smart, effective border management and workplace verification measures to ensure the bill can successfully pass both chambers and clear the finish line.

Demand Action: Sign and Share

Living in legislative limbo for over 30 years is a profound moral failure. We cannot afford another session of empty promises, procedural delays, and committee stall tactics while families live in fear of being torn apart.

My parents spent their lives working invisibly, but their legacy gives us a voice. Sign this petition to demand that Congress stops the gridlock, sits down at the negotiating table, and delivers a bipartisan solution for Dreamers and long-term residents now.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with me, for honoring the memory of my parents, Ramona and Miguel, and for adding your voice to this urgent cause. Every single signature brings us one step closer to breaking the political gridlock and bringing millions of long-term residents and Dreamers out of the shadows.

Your support means everything to my family and to countless families just like ours across the nation. Together, we can make our voices too loud for Congress to ignore.

With deepest gratitude,

Juan Carlos Centeno Vazquez
