I experienced firsthand the severe danger of driverless trucks when the semi-truck I was operating, equipped with this technology, unexpectedly slammed on the brakes. This happened in the dead of night, with no vehicles in front of or around me, simply because the sensors misread overhead signs or mile markers. If I would have been on icy roads or someone was tailgating me it would have resulted in a accident. 

Driverless technology in trucks poses a constant threat, not just to the truck drivers but to everyone sharing the road. The sensors guiding these trucks are susceptible to malfunction due to weather conditions. They can ice over in storms, or become misaligned in strong winds or randomly trigger dangerous movements like sudden braking. The technology isn't yet foolproof, and the safety of our roads should always come first.

Beyond the alarming safety concerns, adopting driverless trucks threatens the livelihood of around 3 million professional truck drivers across the nation. Our government and mega carrier companies, prioritizing profit above people, seem set on replacing these jobs, just as they have done with the introduction of foreign drivers on temporary visas. This isn't merely about job loss; it's about the consequential economic impact on millions of families reliant on this sector.

The implications are clear: driverless trucks endanger both lives and livelihoods. We must take action to urge lawmakers to ban driverless trucks from our roads until the technology can be proven reliable and integrated without risk to safety and job security. Adding urgency to this matter will help prevent potential disasters and protect our truck drivers' futures.
