Stop AAPI Hate Starts With Education

Stop AAPI Hate Starts With Education
The Issue
Asian American History is American History.
Today, the history of the Asian culture in America is not told in textbooks or classrooms. When we do talk about Asian culture in class, little is being told. We need schools to teach our kids the many great stories from the Asian culture in our country.
The goals of the petition are to:
1. Have schools INCLUDE Asian American history as part of the American history curriculum rather than placing it separately in ethnic studies.
2. TEACH our teachers about Asian Hate so we don't normalize racist behaviors (jokes, remarks, bullying) in schools.
For example, we need to include the Asian American experience with the Railroad workers, the Chinese Exclusion Act, Japanese Internment Camps, and many more Asian American experiences.
Due to the recent hate crime against Asians, schools need to include these current events. It is important for people to know about history because they will be able to know when something is racist and call them out for it.
It will not only promote knowledge but also allow students to become more aware and exposed. It should be included because it happened in America and it is part of American history. People know about the presidents and constitutions because teachers talk about it all the time and spend many hours teaching it. The same needs to be done for minority history.
This petition will include changing the American History Curriculum in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Organized by Ashlyn So is a 13 years old middle school student, fashion designer, and activist. She had two New York Fashion Week shows before the age of 12. During the pandemic, she made designer masks for frontline workers and received recognitions including a Letter of Appreciation from Congresswoman Jackie Speier and E! People's Choice Awards. After seeing senseless acts against Asian elders, she organized a rally on February 27th, 2021 in San Mateo to Stand For Asians and against AAPI hate where hundreds showed up to support. Ever since she has been invited to speak at Anti AAPI Hate rallies all over the Bay Area alongside local activists and City officials. You can follow her on her Instagram.
