Petition to the Town of Friday Harbor: Support Affordable Housing and Record the Binding Site Plan

We, the undersigned residents of the island and supporters of affordable housing in Friday Harbor and San Juan County, respectfully petition the Town of Friday Harbor to take immediate action to record the Binding Site Plan for the HolliWalk neighborhood, a permanently affordable homeownership development.

The approval and recording of the Binding Site Plan is a critical step that will allow the San Juan Community Home Trust to legally convey homes to income-qualified buyers—individuals and families who live and work in our community but are increasingly priced out of the housing market. In light of the Hearing Examiner's ruling that new requirements at this stage in the project are not consistent with State Law, delays in recording the Binding Site Plan are preventing 8 families and individuals from the joys of owning their own homes and hindering equity building.

The HolliWalk neighborhood will:

• Provide secure, affordable homeownership opportunities for local individuals and families
• Preserve affordability in perpetuity through a Community Land Trust model
• Support the Town’s goals for sustainable, inclusive growth and affordable housing
• Strengthen the social and economic fabric of Friday Harbor by retaining essential community members

We call upon the Town of Friday Harbor to demonstrate its commitment to affordable housing by recording the HolliWalk Binding Site Plan without further delay and helping ensure that Friday Harbor remains a place where people of all incomes can live, work, and thrive.
