I’m a lover of all animals. I take in several strays and injured animals each year. In the event I come across an injured or abandoned animal of any kind, I should not have to fear getting in trouble legally if I help it.
I “illegally” rehabbed a baby opossum several years ago. I have zero regrets. He deserved to live after his mother was killed in a trap! That’s not nature! Had his mother been left alone he would have been able to live out him normal life expectancy without intervention. He weighed 49 grams when we brought him home. He actually released himself from the outside enclosure when he was ready! He had been calling a mate for a minute and we have never seen him since. His natural instincts were very intact. I’m signing for Poe Daddy the opossum! We loved you so much buddy and thank you for teaching us so much about your kind! You were worth it!
This is very important. What a blessing to many animals this would be. We get calls all the time of found injured animals and unfortunately we can't legally care for them currently. Who wants to watch an animal suffer needlessly
Although I’m from Michigan, I believe protecting wildlife is a vital issue that transcends state borders. Every effort to conserve our natural ecosystems matters. Supporting this petition will not only help Alabama's wildlife but also inspire similar efforts across the country. It’s important that we don’t allow these animals to suffer unnecessarily. Limiting the ability for people to rehabilitate injured wildlife leads to loss of life and avoidable tragedies. By allowing people to be able to rehabilitate these animals, we can be sure that they’re receiving the care they would need in order to recover and thrive.
Compassion for wildlife is not a crime, but Alabama currently treats it like it is. This bill could empower compassionate citizens to care for animals.
I was raised on an Indiana farm. We valued our wildlife neighbors. We tried to protect their habitats and lived. I rehabbed several wild animals and released them. Concerned citizens should be able to do that without fear of reprisals. Pass this bill now.
This is SO NEEDED in our state! I receive many calls at my office from people needing a wildlife rehabber and, over the past 20 years, my list has dwindled to nothing. Most people have good intentions and just want to do what's right. Why punish a person for wanting to save a life? For a state that's so "pro life", do animals not count?
I have rescued wildlife for as long as I can remember. It shouldn’t be illegal to help Gods creatures. I refuse to look away and let nature take its course when most of it is caused by humans. The wildlife in my area are losing their habitat, we are destroying their homes. That in itself should be illegal! Our voice is their voice…speak up!
