Victories in Trans Rights

Trans rights are human rights. This is a ridiculous law and a ridiculous waste of time. Our world is not black and white, this or that. Nature really doesn't do one or the other, most things are a spectrum. Just because you may not understand something doesn't mean it's bad or out to get you. We are all people, and everyone deserves the right to exist and be themselves. Please repeal this nonsense. Targeting a population that is already living in fear of persecution or violence. This just further ligimizes that aggression.

Why should my rights as a living, breathing human be up for debate just because I happen to be different?? I’m not touching your kids, I’m not indoctrinating them, I just fucking exist. I’ve been out since I was 11, and not once have I ever felt safe as a student in West Virginia’s schools due to awful treatment by students AND faculty. To this day, I still cannot share who I am with anyone other than close friends in my school without being terrified of what backlash I may receive. Leave us alone and at least pretend you have somewhat of a soul. Transgender rights are human rights.

Trans rights are human rights. Trans folks are already more likely to victims of assault and this only increases their risks without providing any benefit or protection to anyone else.

It is significant in our country, where we claim to be the home of the free and the land of the brave, to offer a safe space to all our trans brothers and sisters.

I am a healthcare professional I follow evidence-based practice and research. I am against this bill not only for clear violation of people’s bodily autonomy and privacy, but because of data. According to Trevor Project, which is a credible data source referenced by healthcare associations, including government-based healthcare institutions: -40% of LGBTQIA+ young people in WV considered suicide in the past year, including 51% transgender and non-binary people. -11% of LGBTQIA+ young people in WV attempted suicide in the past year, including 16% transgender and non-binary people. -58% LGBTQIA+ young people in WV experienced depression and 74% experienced anxiety. For transgender and non-binary people depression was 69% and anxiety 75%. -23% of LGBTQIA+ young WV people were physically threatened or harmed based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity. -62% of LGBTQIA+ young WV people experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity. -46% of LGBTQIA+ young WV people and their families considered leaving the state because of LGBTQIA+ related laws and politics, including 55% of transgender and non-binary people. LGBTQIA+ people are not prone to suicide risk because of gender identity or sexual orientation but due to how they are mistreated and stigmatized in society. Stop the hateful rhetoric and creating public health and mental health crises that are impacting West Virginians and West Virginian families. Be kind. No one should have to stress out or move out of state because they can’t use what bathroom they feel most comfortable and safe too. It’s not a matter of taking off a costume… It does not work like that. These gender identities are truer to these folks experiences, it’s gender affirmation. When they get that, there’s no putting them in the default gender box… they don’t fit anymore. It would be more confusing to people who don’t understand to see people who are representating the gender they feel more closely align too in an opposite facility. Your proposed legislation will bring more burden and violence and to all people in the state of West Virginia. And I can guarantee that it will not just be LGBTQIA+ people who will have violence and insensible distress put upon them. Bills like this that infringe on anyone’s civil rights, infringes on all our civil rights.

I am not transgender myself, but a lot of people whom I consider both friends and family are, including two that I think of as siblings. Because they matter to me, protecting trans rights matter to me.

My child is transgender. She attends Middle school. We’ve never had any problems with which bathroom she uses. It’s not fair that it’s an issue all of the sudden

I’m a young trans boy in WV myself, trans rights ARE human rights and should not be stripped from people just because you may think it’s “wrong.” Please help sign this petition as much as you can as our rights are in danger. Thank you so much :-)

Where do I start? I lost a friend of 47 years because she told me that my fear of losing desperately needed assistance/Security was stupid and all she cared about was her own SS She accused me of letting my PTSD run my life. When I queried as to what about all the vetted horror stories about arrests of innocent people as well as tariffs that are hurting our country as well as our neighbors she said she did not want to hear about it, etc. that she just wanted peace In her life and she didn't care about anything else or listen to my concerns. I was so hurt and shocked that I hung up and blocked her. And the worst part of all of this is that she calls herself a Christian but her actions or lack thereof, speak much louder than words. To summarize my thoughts I am 80 and struggling to support verbally, efforts to rid our country of its poison of hateful leadership and threats of harm and loss of democracy and the rule of law,the slashing of venerable departments from Education to Medical research and dozens of others by a man who wants to be king taking vengeance on anyone who gets in his way.The tales of horror just keep coming. So, successful impeachment vote, removal from office, a slap upside Republican heads, and restoration if possible of our country 's honor. Well, it's a start. Then a reaching out from our elected officials to our communities to help those victimized by the Executive branch. I have lost my friend but all I can do is pray for protection and guidance and hope for seeing our country healed as well as my needs as an 80 year old to hold on to SS and Medicaid and a decent roof over my head.
