In a growing city such as Brisbane, it is important to protect social and sporting clubs, especially those that have limited options to rebuild elsewhere. Motorcycling is a respected and internationally recognised discipline, it would be a significant loss to the motorcycling community - especially in the lead up to Brisbane hosting an international event such as the Olympics.
This track is where I’ve been able to build a sense of community when I moved to Brisbane. So many good times and memories enjoyed here. I want others to be able to do the same and for the younger generations to enjoy what we have enjoyed. I don’t think with the growth Brisbane is experiencing there would be another home for such a venue that is so convenient and special for everyone. There are so many other areas for industrial land but not many for a community dirt track.
Brisbane City Council need to read the comments. There motivation of profit before community is disgusting. The facility grew from nothing in the mid 1980’s. It sits beside a highway and in an Industrial location. Many State and National Champions have called this club their home. The club has hosted state and National titles almost every year. Riders travel from long distances to compete in events hosted at this club.
International based riders such as Australian Jack Miller and numerous other from Australia, America and the UK have also recently competed at this track.
Wake up BCC. If you take this venue it won’t be replaced and this sport and community will be destroyed. Have a heart and conscience and instead of selling can you please lock up this land for the purposes of Motorsport for generations to come.
I have met so many great people and formed (what I believe to be) many lifelong friendships due to this place.
From hosting world class racing, to letting un-talented but enthusiastic hobbyists like myself (and most of the THMC) go around in circles, the North Brisbane Junior Motorcycle Club has really been the backbone of my love for small bikes and dirt. I know I am not alone in feeling this way, and it would be a shame to see such a vital part of grass roots motorcycling within Queensland and Australia dissapear.
Interstate traveller that spends hundreds of dollars in qld monthly because we don’t have a facility like this in our local area.
Proud member of this club while my child has made many friendships learning his race craft at this club
I was a junior at nbjmcc back in the 80's and 90's and would be very disappointed if the community lost the opportunity to take our children to such a great place
North Brisbane is the host of many major events that bring a huge array of so many talented riders to test themselves against the best. This track is the breeding ground for so many youth to have an opportunity at international level racing as they grow older. My son is 4 and just like myself id love to see him ride and race in a safe environment as I feel like there is less and less locations to do so. It would be such a shame to see another great club closed down
Having a tremendous facility like this within easy reach of the city is great for Brisbane's future. So many world class events have been held there and hopefully can continue to draw people to our capital. Losing this facility will take so much away from the Brisbane, Queensland and Australian motorcycle community. Please keep the North Brisbane Junior MC local.
North Brisbane to me and my family is a place of cultural significance, a meeting place of thousands and a safe place for both children and adults to learn and enjoy motorcycle dirt track riding.
I also know the history of the site before it became a dirt track circuit, it was a dumping site and the toxic contamination is presently safely buried under it, to disturb the covering surface would expose the festering waste beneath and threaten the health and safety of residents and businesses for miles around.
