Being called my deadname and misgendered feels weird and makes me uncomfortable so it would be very helpful if teacher would use my preferred pronouns and name
I’m figuring out whether I’m trans (actively a Demi-fluid legal woman with dsymorphia) and I hate when people don’t call me Asher but then hate correcting people (my name is legally Olivia) and hate when I’m forced to (or others) are forced to wear gender sorted uniforms or outfits, like women forced to wear skirts and men allowed to wear pants just because of your sex, and I’ve wrote to schools about this before and they make the rules stricter, so I’ve had to stop. That’s why I’ve signed this petition, schools are transphobic.
Hey, I just wanted to offer my support. I used to hate using a trans person’s preferred pronouns because I didn’t think they were the gender they identified with. Until I started reading stories of some trans people experiences and how it hurt to be misgendered. Then I realized I was wrong. You deserve to be referred to with your preferred pronouns.
As a FTM trans student who struggles with being accepted at home, I am lucky enough to have teachers who try their best. However, I know what it feels like being called she/her and my deadname over he/him and Calvin. It sucks. I'm signing this and sending it to all my supporting buddies so they can sign it too.
I think it shouldn't really matter to people around someone what they want to be called, but it can mean the world to a trans person, so it's worth it. Consider it a nickname if it makes it easier for you to respect it and not deadname them
I have friends at school who feel unhappy with themselves due to disrespect for their preferred name, pronouns, etc. Trans kids have committed suicide (or thought about it) because of this. Suicide is a huge problem in the lgbt+ community and we need to stop this issue! As said in Hamilton, “I don’t understand how you stand to the side.” Get out there and voice your concerns!! LGBT is only a minority because half the people don’t even talk about it. Prevent suicide by sharing your experiences and respecting members of this community. Don’t die please we love you <3
As a trans individual myself, it helped greatly when my school had been supportive of using my preferred name. It made me feel far more welcome and comfortable in the school, and like my teachers cared about me as an individual. I can only hope other students can feel the same comfort and safety I did.
