Closing this crossing will add considerable travel time for my family and increased congestion on other crossings. Once again the west is facing discrimination, no other crossings are being permanently closed.

Champion Rd is vital for our community. Their are so many reasons to keep this road open that can be listed by myself and others. One reason for me is my children live on one side of Champion Rd and I live on the other side. As i am getting on and live on my own it would take too long to get to me in an emergency if they close Champion rd. I have so many other reasons if Jacinta Allen and the rest of her Labour lot are prepared to listen.

Champion Rd is key access between Newport and Williamstown and closing the road is going to add extra unnecessary time to drive locally. Diverting traffic down Maddox Rd will increase traffic going post child care centres, kinder and Newport Gardens primary, which feels like it will lead to a safety issue. Please leave our current access open and find a solution like has been designed for other level crossings outside the west.

As a local parent, I rely on the Champion Road rail crossing every day to take my daughters to school, day care, jiu-jitsu, gymnastics, church, speech therapy, and local shops. The closure of this crossing will force families like mine to take longer, more complicated routes—adding stress, time, and cost to our daily lives. The closure of the road will create rat runs across to Maddox Road and dumb traffic in front of a school and daycare. This crossing isn’t just a road—it’s a vital connection to our community and essential services. Closing it without a practical alternative cuts us off from what matters most. We’re asking the Victorian Government to listen to local voices, explore safer design solutions, and protect our access to the community we live, work and raise our families in.
