Family Violence in all its forms is destroying people. We have a family law court system that allows many forms of these abuses to continue legally... perpetrators are allowed to walk free because they are a threat to their family, apparently not to wider society- even when they are reported to pice by other victims...children are forced into custody arrangements with people they have seen and heard abuse their loved ones and even felt the abuse themselves...children are forced into visiting with abusive people they fear...parents are forced into agreements because they have no money to fight abusive exs, because they were SAHParents, they are by law forced to hand their children over to people who may have almost killed them, and are hell bent on destroying them. They are forced into custody agreements with exs who never looked after the children prior to separation...and now only sue for custody to further hurt their victim further, and to control them.
I am a family violence worker from Melbourne‘s northern suburbs and I am a frequent visitor to East Gippsland for holidays. I have heard from local people in Lakes Entrance that there is a family violence crisis that requires immediate intervention. I feel I can be of help to people in East Gippsland, however there needs to be some support available for me to be able to help. We have had the Royal Commission into Family Violence come and go here in Victoria, however the rates of family violence across the whole of Victoria have increased! I am happy to discuss this issue with the people who are involved in the family violence sector in Gippsland because I do care. Kind regards, Darren.
Growing up in a house with FV and going on to work as a case manager in family violence I have seen first hand the heartbreaking outcomes for women and children facing FV and Fleeing FV
Resources in Gippsland are not enough to enable women and children to be safe long term and to heal and to move forward to a life free of violence . Many return to the family home feeling there are no options. First Nations Specific Services are poorly funded this need to be increased to support our First Nations People in Gippsland Many Women do not report their FV in fear there will not be adequate support for them Please increase the supports and services in all the areas listed in the letter to Decision Makers in Gippsland
