My daughter’s IEP has helped her out so much, and I don’t know what will happen if we lose that help. She is ADHD with impulse control issues. She needs an aide with her all day, breaks when she is overstimulated or overwhelmed, and all the other extra help. Without it, she cannot receive the proper education she needs to be a successful member of society.
As a future educator, I fully support the preservation of the department of education and disability rights. Every student deserves an education and access to programs that will help them reach their dreams. Cutting these programs would be a huge step backward. We must not forget that these children are the future of our society. We must fight for them.
I have invisible disabilities. Chronic pain. I have been trying to get SSI or SSDI for decades. They are just waiting until I turn 62 to force me to take minimal retirement. It's a total scam!!!
Sick of disabled people being under attack and the right wing using any excuse they can to lower the amount of help they provide to Americans. It was never enough, and these "prolifers" believe kids deserve less?? My none verbal son deserves the world, all children do. Me being disabled and my partner working isn't enough. Do better america!
I will say this… My baby is incredibly intelligent and his mental ability is beyond his age… HOWEVER, he has adhd, anxiety, cptsd, ocd which has caused Excoriation Disorder and has sensory issues. My little boys brain functions differently than a neurotypical child’s brain. Not just my child but so, so many others too. If these very crucial and extremely beneficial and effective educational systems were to be dissolved, my child among many, many others would suffer so severely. You can act as if there’s only one way to do things and it’s the way that YOU believe for every issue in the US right now and you can argue that if one child can sit in a classroom 8 hours a day, sit still, focusing, no talking, no making noise, no fidgeting, no breakdowns, nothing besides sit there as they are told and work tirelessly like a good boy or girl then every child can and I’m sure you’ll judge the parenting and say it’s due to not beating and hitting their children so they are disrespectful, entitled brats or some outdated and ignorant logic BUT you can’t argue with science and science says that learning is NOT a one size fits all situation and science says that a neurodivergent child/human in general cannot simply force themselves to do something that their brain simply cannot do. We shouldn’t be trying to throw out the only system that has checks and balances to prevent babies like mine from being damned due to things completely out of their control. My son is not a bad kid and does not need more beatings. My child and all the others alike need to be able to learn in an environment that allows his brain to function properly. 504 and IEP plans need a lot of work but even as they are, it is a best option available so that my son and all alike can get an education just like his peers. While there is definitely work needed in the department of education just like every other department and branch in our government, the solution is not to do away with it completely. Oh absolutely not… You all better start realizing that the hate in your heart that is causing you to vote these evil politicians to lead our country and to make rules and tear apart systems that are there to protect and help each and every American, will be the same hate that the WE, the ones who voted against this insanity and are fighting for not just our rights but yours too while you are to filled with self righteous evilness, will have for the ones who brought about what is to come from the lack of empathy in you people. That’s all.
As a public school educator, to remove the department of education will make it nearly impossible to meet the needs of my students fully, leaving my most vulnerable students without the support they deserve. Please keep the federal department of education!
As an adult with disabilities who works with children and adults with disabilities, there needs to be equal access and safety measures in place for everyone.
